Rinconada Studio is a creative continuation of a long artistic journey that began with the legacy of Artesanía Rinconada, one of Uruguay’s most recognized names in collectible ceramic art.
The story of Rinconada Studio begins in 2002, in the office of Jorge De Rosa Thompson, co-founder in 1975 of the original Artesanía Rinconada company together with the twin artists Jesús and Javier Carbajales. It was there that the idea of Studio Rinconada first emerged.
At the beginning, the objective was simple but historically important: to catalog, organize, and eventually offer for sale the many pieces stored in old warehouses containing antique stock from the original production years. During that process, countless remarkable pieces were discovered — including prototypes, artist trials, experimental models, and one-of-a-kind creations made by artists connected to Artesanía Rinconada since the 1970s.
These were not ordinary decorative objects. They were part of the creative memory of the brand.
Preserving the Creative Archive
Jorge De Rosa Thompson and Murdock G. began the process of identifying and inventorying these rare works, especially pieces classified as Prototype and One of a Kind. Over time, retired artists from the original Artesanía Rinconada factory also approached the studio, offering pieces they had preserved in their private collections.
This opened a new chapter: Rinconada Studio was no longer only cataloging the past. It became a bridge between heritage, collectors, and new creative ideas.
From Jorge’s office, new concepts and prototype ideas were developed with the possibility of inspiring future production by the main factory, then managed by the next generation.
The Birth of Rinconada Studio
In 2003, Jorge De Rosa Thompson and Murdock G. formally created Rinconada Studio. One of their first major projects was the creation of a catalog dedicated to retired figurines and collectible pieces through rinconadacollectibles.com.
This catalog helped collectors identify older pieces, understand retired models, and recognize the importance of prototypes and rare editions within the broader history of Artesanía Rinconada.
In 2004, eBay included Artesanía Rinconada within its collectible figurines category, giving the brand greater visibility among international collectors and strengthening the global market for retired and vintage pieces.
From Uruguay to New Creative Horizons
Around 2008, Studio Rinconada ceased operating in Uruguay. However, the creative activity continued through Murdock G. from the United States.
In the following years, different possibilities were explored, including potential joint ventures in Lima – Peru and Texas – USA. These efforts reflected the same original spirit: to preserve the Rinconada artistic legacy while opening new paths for unique, handmade decorative art.
A New Chapter in Paraguay
In 2024, Murdock G. and Juan Sebastian Graf Von Beroldingen met in Asunción, Paraguay. During that meeting, they discussed the possibility of developing a new artistic direction: offering exclusive and unique decorative art created by artists with a strong family tradition in artistic creations: ceramic / terracotta and oak wood sculptures.
This vision led Rinconada Studio toward Paraguay — a country with deep craft traditions, skilled artisans, and communities where ceramic and wood carving knowledge has often been passed from one generation to the next.
In 2025, the Studio chose to sponsor works created by artists from Tobatí, a Paraguayan town historically known for its clay, ceramics, and artisanal production. Contact was established with recognized artists from the area, opening the door to a new creative collaboration.
At the beginning of 2026, Rinconada Studio moved its creative focus to Tobatí, working directly with local artists and beginning the development of unique pieces intended for collectors, interior designers, and gift buyers around the world.
